Former Ridge Meadows Flame Kellan Tochkin signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks, the NHL hockey club announced Monday.
The 5’10”, 177-pound forward had 74 points in 72 games with the Everett Silvertips this season, leading the Western Hockey League in rookie scoring.
After going undrafted at the NHL’s 2009 Entry Draft, Tochkin was invited to the Canucks prospect camp earlier this month.
“It’s surreal. It’s been my goal to play for the Canucks ever since I was able to walk,” Tochkin stated in a press release Monday. “Now I have to continue working as hard as I can to make sure that my dream is realized.”
At 18 years and five months, Tochkin becomes the youngest player in Everett Silvertips history to have signed an entry level NHL contract, and joins former Silvertips Dan Gendur and Taylor Ellington in the Canucks’ system.
Tochkin, a native of Abbotsford, played the 2007/08 season with the Ridge Meadows Flames, scoring 59 points in 32 games with the local Junior B club.
