The Ridge Meadows Burrards bantam A1 box lacrosse team took home a silver medal earlier this month at the B.C. provincial championships in Richmond.
The Burrards finished their 2009 campaign with a 34-4 record, and outscored their opposition by a margin of 356-166.
Team members include Mitchell Abercrombie, Michael Bell, Jacob Currie, Connor David, Jesse Gillespie, Riley Glemnitz, Andrew Gresham, Tanner Hartley, Kyle Heiling, Brant Hicks, Brett Kujala, Colin Maxwell, Adam Mulligan, Joe Olson, Bradly Rowbotham, Adam Stanbury, and Justin Tweedie.
Ridge Meadows opened the tournament with a 10-6 win over Saanich July 15, followed by a pair of overtime wins the next day against Burnaby, 7-6, and Port Coquitlam, 9-8. On Friday, July 17, the Burrards downed Juan de Fuca 9-7 before beating Coquitlam 6-3 and Port Coquitlam 6-1 on Saturday.
That put the Burrards in the provincial final Sunday afternoon, where they were narrowly edged 10-8 by Burnaby for their first and only loss of the tournament.
Hieling was awarded the tournament’s most valuable player honours, while Glemnitz was named to the all-star team and Gresham earned recognition for his sportsmanlike play.
