Former Flames try out for NHL
Local junior B products Brandon Yip, Prab Rai and Kellan Tochkin will get their chance to make their NHL dreams come true this year. Former Flames Rai and Tochkin will be attending the Vancouver Canucks’ prospects camp in September, while Yip will be headed to Colorado after signing a one-year deal with the Avalanche.
Rai was the Canucks’ fifth-round draft choice in 2008 and played for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL last year, racking up 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points in 61 games.
Tochkin had 59 points in 32 games for the Flames in 2007/08. After moving up to junior A with the Langley Chiefs for the 2008 play-offs, Tochkin spent last season with the Everett Silvertips and led all WHL rookies in scoring with 74 points (20 goals and 54 assists in 72 games). Tochkin was ranked 139th of all draft eligible North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting this year.
