The Ridge Meadows Emeralds bantam C softball team were crowned Zone 3 regional champions June 29 in Surrey, finishing with a 9-1 record at the four-day tournament.

The championship final saw the Emeralds fall behind early to Fleetwood, but the team rallied late to take the game in extra innings.

The Emeralds only loss of the weekend came against the Mission Fury in their first play-off game. After beating hosts Guildford, then Port Coquitlam to stay alive, the Emeralds once again faced Mission, beating them in another come-from-behind effort.

The Emeralds were led all season by pitchers Jessica Lloyd and Sydney Cordes, catchers Evan Caros and Kayla Gilliland, and clutch hitters and fielders Ashley Pulleyblank, Keira Gilliland, Kirsten Kristoffersen, Rachel Robson, Rheann Smart, Aimee Labelle, Jenna Weirsma, Melanie Christensen and Vanessa Claros.

“Our team played well all season long and had a great time,” said Richard Cordes. “We are so proud of our players.”
