Don’t forget about Hammond taxpayers

Re: Rock Ridge residents washed out (The News, Aug. 28).
I read the article about Brian Jones at Rock Ridge. Good luck to him.
We at Maple Crescent had the same problems as a result of a plugged storm drain. It flooded my garage and ran continually for 12 hours, and the result is my sidewalks cracking and my driveway cracking.
When I talked to a representative from the district, he said I could have it fixed, at my expense, then try to get the municipality to pay for it.
I woke up to the manhole floating about four inches above the road, and shooting out of the holes another 10 inches. Good thing the manhole is directly in front of my house and driveway with the slope to my driveway.
I called and someone arrived with a few sandbags to help me block the water and direct it west. The road is collapsing and the truck traffic is really helping that.
The district repaired the section around the manhole (twice), but it is collapsing again. The bridge traffic being rerouted from 203 Street east to 207 Street along Maple Crescent is really helping the trucks, and the added traffic should have this road collapsed in record time.
The district is aware of this and seems to want to put funds elsewhere. Money for redoing 224 Street ( twice, maybe three times) could have been directed to this area of Hammond and Rock Ridge where there is a problem.
It appears to me that the idea is to make the main areas look promising for travellers and forget about the people paying taxes.
