Human connections with Albion Ferry

Re: Final sail for Albion Ferry (The News, Aug. 5).
Your story certainly brought some memories to the surface. I recall having my 1969 muscle car’s starter die on the ferry in 1980; the car and my friends and I took four extra trips back and forth across the Fraser River while the staff patiently routed traffic around us before the car eventually started.
More recently was when my father was dying of cancer. On the day that would turn out to be his last on earth, at the pleading of our friend who was there, the ferry staff let us cut in the front of the line so that we could get to south Surrey in time to be with him.
Most will appreciate the new bridge; we have used it often already. However, although the bridge will give faster commuting times and opportunities on both sides of the Fraser, it will never have the human connection.
