A report to RCMP

Editor, The News:
I have had a very informative lesson the other day in regards to how our local RCMP respond to concerns about impaired drivers.
I had a ‘road rage’ incident with a motorist behind me who appeared to take exception to my slow driving (doing 60 km/h on a 50 km/h back road and stopping at four way stops). He appeared to be either intoxicated or under the influence of some drug.
After more erratic behavior I followed the individual to where he lived, wrote down the license plate number and address, and phoned Ridge Meadows RCMP. To my surprise, I was told that because it was over 10 minutes for me to report this (of which five minutes was getting to a telephone and five minutes on the phone waiting to report the occurrence), I would have to write down a report and submit it to the local RCMP office, and even though they had the location of the driver at that moment, would not be following up.
I phoned a second time to confirm as I couldn’t believe the first answer, but received the same response.
My main concern was that this individual might get back on the road again, but obviously that was not a concern for the RCMP. I have certainly learned a lesson in reporting. Enjoy the safe driving on our highways.
