Re: Democracy needs constant vigilance (News Views July 3).
I totally agree that “Democracy needs constant vigilance,” but question how that is possible when you have a government that has bought and paid for 70 per cent of the news media, or CanWest specifically, with hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in bailouts for CanWest and other Asper projects. The Conservatives have done everything possible to subvert democracy with their efforts to marginalize the Senate, and are easily one of the most secretive federal governments in Canadian history, even going to the extreme of shutting our democracy down for two whole months.
Never mind their attempt to castrate the opposition that caused the political crisis in the first place.
I question whether we can even have a fair election under these Orwellian circumstances.
I guess the CBC just hasn’t figured out that all you have to do to get government help or have access to our tax dollars is to print or not print exactly what they tell you.
