Pitt traffic count shows drop

A study of traffic volumes done in Pitt Meadows this summer shows a drop in cars on most city roads.
Conducted on all arterial and connector roads in the municipality, the annual count helps city staff prioritize road improvements.
Engineering services manager Ike De Boer said the city won’t be putting any new traffic lights or roundabouts in.
“The volumes aren’t high enough to warrant anything.”
The counts show traffic decreased on 122A Avenue, 193rd Street, 119th Avenue and Blakely Road by 15 to 20 per cent.
Volumes also dropped by 50 per cent on Davison Road and 194B Street since the opening of Park Road through 192A Street and a new intersection at 124th Avenue and Harris Road. Ford Road, west of Harris, has seen a decrease, but volumes on Ford west of Baynes Road have increased. Traffic on Hammond Road west of the Katzie Slough also dropped since 2008, likely due to motorist using Harris access the Golden Ears Bridge via the new Airport Way.
Third reading
The site of the future Cedar Downs development in Pitt Meadows got third reading at council Tuesday.
The property at the corner of McMyn and 190A Street will be rezoned to multiple family lots in order to allow the construction of a residential development of ultimately 338 dwelling units.
The developer must phase the development, with only 46-units permitted initially, as well as not build residences within 30 metres of Lougheed Highway and add sprinklers.
