Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue was called into Golden Ears Provincial Park on Friday after three teenagers got lost hiking along Viewpoint Trail.

They left for their hike at about 5 p.m. from the West Canyon Trail parking lot. The trail has two viewpoints and they lost the trail at the first one, said Rick Lang, SAR team manager.

“It was nice, mild warm night. But it got dark fairly quick,” he said.

“They managed to get a fire going. Their plan was to wait for daylight and find their way back out.”

A dozen search and rescue members responded to the call and located the trio at about 2:20 a.m. on Saturday. The 16-year-old girl and two 18-year-old males were cold and hungry when found.
