Ridge Meadows RCMP are investigating a case of identity theft.

A 45-year-old Maple Ridge man was contacted by two companies on Sept. 8 and told that he owed money on accounts.

The man knew he had not opened accounts with either of the two stores, but had reported his wallet stolen in 2008. Police said these incidents could be related.

“If you see any charge you’re not sure of, contact the billing company to ensure it is authentic, and that you, or an authorized person, made that transaction,” said Insp. Derren Lench.

“Identity theft is on the rise, so we must all be diligent to report any suspicious activities that can lead to that sort of crime.”

Truck recovered

A stolen truck from Langley was found in Maple Ridge early Wednesday.

At about 4:30 a.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP spotted the truck speeding along 232 Street, south from 116 Avenue.

By the time the officers turned around, the truck was parked and the occupant(s) had left.

The theft is still under investigation, but the truck has been returned to its registered owner.

Cash was stolen from a vending machine inside the Greg Moore Youth Centre on Tuesday.

Someone broke into the machine at about 10 p.m. and took the cash box.

Two 30-year-old men were seen outside the youth centre, but it is unknown whether they were responsible for the theft.

Police said the men are both Caucasian with blonde hair and were seen sitting on BMX bikes.

Building materials stolen

Building materials were stolen from three homes under construction this week.

Two thefts occurred in the 13000 block of 240 Street. Hardwood flooring, light fixtures, wood cabinets and two fire places were taken from the building sites. Only lumber was stolen from the third home, in the 24900 block of 108A Avenue.

Police remind builders to mark all materials and tools so that they can be identified.
