A lightning strike has caused a forest fire north of Mission on the east side of Pitt Lake.

The one-hectare fire has drawn Coastal Fire Centre workers to the site, with 23 firefighters battling the blaze, alongside three helicopters and an air tanker, said CFC spokesperson Donna MacPherson.

The fire was reported Thursday morning, and MacPherson said the fire had been smoldering for several days.

Moisture in the woods kept the fire undetected, but the recent dry weather has given the more fuel.
