RCMP Musical Ride comes to fairgrounds
Musical riders and horses form a “dome.”
The RCMP Musical Ride will stop in Maple Ridge this month for two performances.
Showtimes are 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the Albion Fairgrounds. The 32 riders and horses will perform a variety of intricate figures and calvary drills choreographed to music.
“This is basically a look back in time to how the RCMP started and how they trained,” said Tom Cameron, president of the Maple Ride-Pitt Meadows Agricultural Association. “It’s one of the most unique things we have left from our history.”
Local country singer Natasha Zimbaro will sing the national anthem and people will be able to take photographs with police and their horses after each show.
In addition to the musical ride, the RCMP E Division Pipe Band will perform and police dogs will give a demonstration. The Kiwanis Golden Ears Club will also be running a food concession.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased Monday to Wednesday from the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Agricultural Association office on the fairgrounds. All proceeds from the event support the Kiwanis Club and the agricultural association, which hosts Country Fest.
