More than 1,500 people came out to celebrate the sweet treats of summer at HoneyLand Canada’s fourth annual Bees and Blueberry Festival last weekend in Pitt Meadows.
The event featured kung-fu demonstrations, precision parachutists, a traditional Chinese lion dance, pony rides, live music, and of course, all sorts of honey- and blueberry-based sweets.
HoneyLand owner Ron Lin, aka Dr. Bee, donned a live “bee beard,” attracting thousands of live bees to his face and chest, much to the shock and delight of the crowd. The worker bees are attracted to the scent of the queen bee, which Lin hides under his shirt.
The HoneyLand apiary provides pollination for organic flowering crops throughout the Fraser Valley, such as blueberries, and the annual event celebrates the symbiotic relationship between bees and plants.
