After blowing a pair of two-goal leads, the North Delta Devils tallied twice in the last 10 minutes of play for a 6-4 win over the Grandview Steelers Sunday afternoon in Burnaby.

The win ended a brief two-game losing streak for North Delta, which dropped a 4-2 decision to the Port Moody Black Panthers Saturday night at the Sungod Arena.

Mike Wilson and Michael Nardi scored late in Sunday’s game to give North Delta a win, their 14th victory in 19 Pacific International Junior Hockey League games.

Wilson and Nardi each finished the game with two goals and a pair of assists. Jamie Fowler and Stephen Saretsky also netted goals for the Devils, who had 2-0 and 4-2 leads, only to allow Grandview to tie it each time.

North Delta outshot the Steelers 35-28, and improved their record to 14-3-2 (won-loss-overtime loss). The second place Devils trail the Richmond Sockeyes by four points in the Tom Shaw Conference standings, and hold three games in hand.

North Delta lost a chance to cut into Richmond’s lead Saturday, losing to a Port Moody team which won for just the fifth time in 18 games.

The Devils had a 38-35 shots on goal advantage, but trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes. Trevor Kang got the home team to within one, but the Panthers scored into the empty net with 51 seconds to play to put the game out of reach.

Darren Asuncion tallied the first North Delta goal, which tied the contest five minutes into the second period.

The Devils are on the road Wednesday to play the Squamish Wolf Pack. Next home game is at 7 p.m. Saturday against the Delta Ice Hawks.
