Two members of the Guildford Park Secondary wrestling program were recently honoured by Wrestling B.C.

Wrestler Gina Carpenter and coach Bryan Stretch were recipients of annual awards.

Carpenter, now wrestling at Simon Fraser University, won the Top Juvenile Girl award. In her Grade 12 year at Guildford Park, she won a second consecutive provincial championship and earned a bronze medal at the Junior Nationals.

Stretch won the B.C. Junior Development Coach of the Year award.

“This award is very well deserved and long overdue,” said Mark McRae, who coaches alongside Stretch at Guildford Park. “Bryan has been coaching with me for the past nine years and coached at Fleetwood Park for four years prior.

“In addition to working as a firefighter with the City of Surrey, Bryan devotes over 20 hours a week to developing wrestlers at Guildford Park and this award couldn’t have gone to a more deserving coach.”
