Winning five of the seven races he entered, Matthew Moniz topped the points standings in the Northwest Gold Cup go-kart series.

The 11-year-old Surrey resident also posted finishes of second and fourth to top the standings in the eight-race Mini Max series, which featured races from March through September in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia.

Moniz, who has been racing go-karts since he was seven years-old, was the only Canadian in his class. He will move up to the Junior Class next season.

Go-karts in the Mini Max class are powered by 125cc engines, and are capable of speeds in excess of 120 km/h.
