Three local hockey players are among 22 from throughout the province short listed for Team Pacific, which will compete at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge Dec. 29 to Jan. 4 in Timmins, Ontario.

Goaltender Laurent Brossoit and defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon of Surrey, and North Delta defenceman Zach Hodder were selected following a BC Hockey evaluation camp July 27 to Aug. 1 in Nanaimo.

Players will continue to be evaluated during the season, with 11 to be selected in mid-November to compete in the tournament. The B.C. players selected will join 11 from Alberta to form Team Pacific.

The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is a 10-team tournament featuring five regional teams from Canada (Pacific, West, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic), and the national teams of the United States, Russia, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic.
