Team B.C. perfect in PEI

A half dozen local athletes have helped Team BC get off to a perfect 3-0 (won-loss) start in women’s softball competition at the Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward Island.
Catcher Lindsay McElroy of North Delta was two-for-three with two runs scored in an 8-0 victory over Newfoundland and Labrador. B.C. scored in each of the first four innings before the game was stopped on the seven-run mercy rule. Shortstop Kelsey Bryant of Surrey had one hit and scored a pair of runs.
Courtney Cronin of North Delta pitched three innings, retiring all nine batters she faced, eight by strikeout.
On Monday morning, Team BC hammered Prince Edward Island 11-0, then later that evening blanked New Brunswick 7-0, also in five innings. McElroy was one-for-three, scoring a pair of runs.
B.C. has assured itself a place in the playoff round, which concludes Saturday.

Sarah Allison and Sally Hillier, both from Elgin Park Secondary, were part of the provincial team which hammered the Yukon 111-27 Sunday morning.
Nine hours later, Team BC stopped Saskatchewan 78-54 for their second victory. B.C. outscored Saskatchewan 29-13 in the third quarter, extending a five-point halftime lead to 21 with 10 minutes to play. Hillier scored eight points, while Allison added five.
Team BC then came from behind to stop New Brunswick 106-55. Trailing 20-18 after the first quarter, B.C. led 50-33 at halftime. Hillier scored three points, and added six rebounds, including a team-high five defensive rebounds. Allison contributed with six points.
