Setting off sparks

I feel I must respond to Sunny Mann’s letter (“Fireworks complaints disturbing,” Oct. 28).
Fireworks and firecrackers are illegal in Surrey, without obtaining a permit. They are illegal whether it is Diwali, Christmas, Halloween, Canada Day, Hannakuh or Eid. Would Sunny Mann have been “shocked” if there were complaints of other illegal activity, such as drug use in our parks?
The cacophony that was Diwali was intrusive and three days after Halloween, there were still firecrackers being set off in our neighbourhood.
Not only was the noise very disruptive, but it terrified my dog and those of my neighbours. I also doubt very much that the four youths that threw firecrackers at me and my dog while we were on our walk had a permit.
I am also an “open-minded person,” but I obey the law and am also considerate of my neighbourhood and the inhabitants that live in it – both two legged and four-legged.
