Fireworks disturb neighbours
Updated: October 20, 2009 4:25 PM
For the past three days we have been disturbed by fireworks which are illegal for private citizens to have unless they have a permit within the city limits of Surrey.
On Saturday night, things were out of control. We called the RCMP who were swamped with calls and apparently seriously understaffed.
I made several complaints, so we now have documentation.
At one stage, at about 9 p.m., the RCMP did attend at my house and did do a circuit of the neighbourhood with their lights on for which I and my neighbours are grateful.
However, about 40 minutes later, they started up again, so I went out to see where they were actually setting off fireworks. One of my neighbours was involved and I explained to his young daughter that they should not be doing it and she did not seem to care.
In past years, after the law was changed, it was not a major problem. But now it is a contentious issue
I am ambivalent as to fireworks and feel that there is a time and place for them, but these people have no regard for Canadian law, they have no regard for their neighbours and they have no regard for the petrified animals who have to suffer through their nonsense.

Quiet evening disrupted
So much for a quiet and relaxing Saturday night (Oct. 17).
There have been non-stop firecrackers/fireworks. When I called the RCMP to ask what was going on I was told that it was Diwali and that they were getting lots of calls and complaints.
I was told that no one had permits or permission but with so many celebrating they were doing their best to get things under control. I want to be respectful of the celebrations of others but why do we all have to be inconvenienced with such loud, inconsiderate and illegal behaviour?
I have a headache.
