TransLink’s pot of gold found
Updated: August 12, 2009 3:18 PM
Last week it was mentioned that TransLink would like to gather even more money for TransLink to continue to operate and expand in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.
I see that there are several projects going ahead and in particular the new HOV lane expansion from the Fraser Valley on Highway one up to the Port Mann Bridge expansion.
That’s great for moving people from Langley, Aldergrove and beyond.
Why is TransLink doing this? All the outlying communities beyond Langley/Aldergrove do not participate in the GVRD gasoline tax per litre for TransLink.
Do Fraser Valley residents pay the TransLink tax on their property taxes?
If not then why not? They use our taxed roads.
I thought a few years ago TransLink discussed expanding their tax grab out to Valley.
Several people I work with live in the Valley and commute daily to Downtown Vancouver using our subsidised roads or trains using my TransLink dollars.
If TransLink is looking for dollars, then I have found their pot of gold.
Look east TransLink, go far east – tax ‘em to Chilliwack.
