Inhumane attitude

Re: “My home, my pesticides,” letter by Jon Argitos, The Leader, July 29.

As a retired federal intelligence analyst, I am currently honourary Canadian observer on the U.S. Pesticide Working Group.

Is Mr. Argitos talking about spraying pesticides within his house, with windows closed, so they do not escape outside?

Clearly, he is talking about spraying volatile pesticides outside, as a result of which these toxic substances will invade his neighbours’ yards, with the potential to sicken and eventually kill, especially if vulnerable young children, not to speak of pets, happen to live/walk nearby.

Moreover, these pesticides, along with those of other residents of his town, may contaminate nearby streams and rivers, which no doubt are a source of drinking water for a substantial number of the inhabitants of British Columbia.

This is not a responsible, humane attitude of an individual who aspires to membership in a civilized society.
