The end of Canada Day flag

I have been a resident of North Surrey for 41 years.

It was July 1st when we moved into our first and only home. Back then the holiday wasn’t such a big deal as it is today. We enjoyed the holiday from work and that was about it. We used to call it Dominion Day.

I can’t remember when it was changed, but in this new century we celebrate with more gusto then ever before. We hang a flag out in front of our home, and dress in Canada T-shirts and caps.

This year we added a flag to our car window. We drove to areas outside of Surrey to shopping centres and restaurants where people in general acknowledged our flag waving in the wind.

This morning, we decided to go shopping. We still had our flag clamped to the car window.

When we returned, the flag was gone.

So much for living in Surrey. I just don’t understand today’s society anymore. I do know one thing though. Next year there will be no flag(s).
