Climate Action Dividend is not enough

Mr. Gordon Campbell:

While I appreciate the $100 Climate Action Dividend you sent me last week, I am asking if you might make an exception in my case, and see fit to top it up with an additional $123. It will go to a good, green cause, I promise you.

I know you think the rebate and the income tax break that’s coming my way will put more money in my pocket, but I’m still reeling from the 15 per cent pay cut you imposed on me a few years back. While I’ve had a couple of raises since that time, they don’t quite cover the increased cost of the bus pass I buy each month.

Everything else I need has gone up in price to offset the rising cost of fuel, so I find myself falling further and further behind the cost of living, no matter how green a living I try to make it.

This brings me to the additional $123 I’ve requested. You see, my bus stop has disappeared.

This particular one was usurped by a right-turn lane put in to accommodate about 400 or so new cars coming to North Delta.

You see, there’s a new housing development going up in place of the trees that used to be on the top of Nordel Hill.

There are no plans to bring more public transit to that area, in spite of the huge population increase, so the bus stop was removed and a new road with its own turn lane put in its place.

Meanwhile, I’m forced to walk an additional 15 minutes to the nearest bus stop.

In anticipation of the coming winter weather, I’ve looked into the price of a good pair of waterproof walking shoes and a set of breathable rain gear. I can get a jacket, pants, and shoes made of all-natural products, for $223.

I’m hoping you will consider this $223 a good Climate Action Investment, and that you’ll appreciate the added money you’ll find in your health care budget, thanks to the fitness benefits I’ll be sure to reap from my daily walk.

I look forward to my next cheque from you.
