Olympic flame lights up Surrey streets

They came in red and white, armed with flags and passion.

Thousands of people emptied out of office buildings and schools along the Olympic Torch Relay route through Surrey to cheer on the torch bearers and see the flame first-hand.

The fast-moving torch relay entered Surrey with a celebration in Cloverdale at the Surrey Museum square around 2:45 p.m.

The torch then headed west along Highway 10 before turning north on 152 Street and making its way to Surrey City Hall.

A massive community celebration and lighting of Surrey's cauldron happens at Holland Park this evening.

Tomorrow, the torch goes to White Rock, North Delta, New Westminster, and Tsawwassen before ending the day with a huge celebration at the O-Zone in Richmond.

The torch has travelled by plane, snowmobile, canoe, skateboard and B.C. Ferry.

For the detailed routes, see Vanoc's interactive Olympic torch relay map.

The torch reaches B.C. Place to open the Winter Olympics Friday after a journey of 45,000 kilometres across Canada carried by 3,500 torch bearers.
