Not a hate crime
Swastikas, a gang signature and other graffiti strewn across a South Surrey neighbourhood last week is not being investigated as a hate crime, police say.
But officers are taking the mess discovered around Country Woods Drive seriously nonetheless.
Officers who were called last Friday morning noted the scrawls on traffic signs, a post office super-mailbox and the garage door of a home in the 2800-block of Country Woods Drive (near 172 Street, between 26 and 29 avenues).
Neighbourhood Liaison Unit officers are investigating, along with Community Safety Officers, said Const. Kenn Meglic.
Ravers rebel
Police responding to a report of youth yelling on the Highway 99 overpass at 24 Avenue ended up arresting two males on charges, including committing an indecent act.
The pair were among approximately 100 youth at a rave that officers discovered in the process of responding to the June 28 complaint.
The rave was located in the 15500-block of 28 Avenue.
Alarming technique
One man was arrested last week, after police fielded a trio of complaints about a forceful alarm company salesman.
The man was apparently going door-to-door and “would literally push his way into people’s houses demanding to see their alarm systems,” said Const. Kenn Meglic.
“We had at least three files,” said Meglic.
The first complaint came in on June 25, in the 14400-block of 17A Avenue.
The man had no business cards or identification, and was “quite belligerent and forceful,” Meglic said.
He was arrested after a complaint came in on June 27.
