A 36-year-old Surrey man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the weekend death of a Delta woman whom police say he knew through a "previous relationship."
Kelly David McKenzie appeared in Surrey Provincial Court Monday and remains in custody.
He was arrested by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) after a 24-year-old Delta woman was found dead at a home near 103 Avenue and 140 Street in Surrey.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
According to IHIT spokesman Cpl. Dale Carr, the accused and the victim knew one another "by way of a previous relationship."
Police were called around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after the B.C. Ambulance Service received a 911 call about a woman down.
Paramedics arrived at a residence to discover the dead woman.
Police waited for a search warrant before going in to retrieve the body.
During the initial examination of the site, officers at the scene identified McKenzie – who was living in the home – as a suspect and arrested him without incident.
Homicide investigators are still attempting to establish what went on at the residence and have not released any other details about the murder.
