Surrey RCMP on Tuesday arrested a man wanted in connection with a brutal domestic assault over the weekend.
Shahzad Sardar-Ali, 31, was taken into custody "without incident" at 7:30 Monday night outside a motel in Newton, police say.
He is a suspect in the stabbing and assault of his ex-girlfriend.
Surrey RCMP were called to a North Surrey residence at 9 a.m. Sunday to investigate a complaint of domestic assault.
Police found a 19-year-old woman suffering from extensive stab wounds to her face, head and arms.
The assailant had also hit her over the head with a 75 lb dumbbell.
The victim was taken to hospital where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Sardar-Ali has a criminal record for several violent offences, including robbery and assault.
He is facing previous charges stemming from a July 1 assault of his ex-girlfriend but had been released on the condition that he have no contact with the victim.
Sardar-Ali was due in Surrey court Tuesday where he is expected to be charged with attempted murder, breach of recognizance and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection with the latest arrest.
