Loaded shotgun found under teen's mattress

Delta Police made an alarming discovery inside a North Delta teen's bedroom this week.

Acting on a tip, two officers went to to a home in the 9500 block of 128 Street on Monday. Police had been told that two youths were hiding an unregistered weapon in one of their bedrooms, but they didn't have enough information to secure a search warrant.

So the officers simply asked the teen's mom for permission to search his room.

She said yes.

That's when the officers found a loaded 12 gauge Remington shotgun between the boy's mattress and box spring. Next to the bed was a box containing 15 shotgun shells.

Police also located what's being described as "two fist filler devices with three blades attached." When gripped, the fist fillers give the appearance of the hands of the X-Men cartoon character Wolverine.

Several other bladed weapons were found in the room.

Delta Police have seized the weapons, but charges are unlikely against the teens because officers did not have a warrant to search the room.

It's unclear how, or why, the teens obtained the weapons and ammunition. The shotgun had been stolen in 2006 in West Vancouver.
