Brokop wraps tour in Surrey
Lisa Brokop returns to her hometown of Surrey for a concert Nov. 13.
Award-winning singer and songwriter Lisa Brokop returns to her roots next week, venturing back from Nashville to perform for her hometown Surrey fans.
The local concert on Friday (Nov. 13) is the final stop of Brokop's 2009 Beautiful Tragedy Tour, showcasing music from her latest album.
Beautiful Tragedy, her seventh album, is billed as a "true representation" of the musician and who she is.
In the title track, the songwriter says "I'll take all the storms and I'll take all the pain and I'll throw in the good times and weave them up magically into my tapestry – all my life's meant to be's in a beautiful tragedy..."
Brokop's approach to the new album was "back to basics" with a simple recipe of great songs and pure music instead of layers of electronics and instrumentation.
She also led the project from top to bottom as writer, producer and record label.
Brokop, who's also a new mom (she and her husband welcomed daughter Ivy in early August), will also perform familiar favourites from previous albums, including Hey, Do you Know Me and I'd LIke to See You Try. She'll be joined by her three-piece band.
Brokop will be at the Surrey Arts Centre, 13750 88 Ave. on Nov. 13. Tickets are $36 for adults, $32 for students and seniors, available by calling 604-501-5566 or at www.arts.surrey.ca
