They may not reach the podium, but members of the Vaudevillians are getting in the Olympic spirit with their upcoming fundraising performances at the Surrey Arts Centre.

This will be the sixth year the senior performing group is holding an afternoon and evening of song, dance and humour to raise money for performing arts students at Douglas College.

And in keeping with the excitement of the 2010 Games, this year's show, entitled Go For Gold, is sports themed. But fans need not fear as favourites such as the leprechaun and Burns and Allen will return to stage with the usual array of old and familiar songs and dances – and of course, lots of humour.

Every year, deserving students at Douglas College receive bursaries from the perpetual fund established by the Vaudevillians in 2004.

The Vaudevillians are a volunteer group of 30 seniors, 63-88 years young, who rehearse weekly 10 months of the year and hit the stage throughout the Lower Mainland regularly. This year, they've already performed 22 shows.

Go For Gold takes place Nov. 14, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Surrey Arts Centre, 13750 88 Ave. All matinee tickets are $20 and evening tickets are $20 for seniors and students, $22.50 general admission, available by calling 604-501-5566.

There will also be a concert Dec. 6 at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam, in conjunction with the Envision Light the Lake Festival. Show time is 7 p.m. with all proceeds also benefiting the Douglas College bursary. Tickets for that show are available by calling 604-927-6555.
