The Community Arts Council of White Rock and District's current show features nature-inspired paintings by Nicole Carrie at the CAC gallery in Windsor Square, 90 – 1959 152 St.

Opening reception is Thursday, Sept. 3, 7-9 p.m. with the artist in attendance.

Although she has not had any formal art training, Carrie – who started painting in 2005 after retiring from a successful 20-year career as owner of a ladies clothing store – feels she has had a lifetime of preparation.

She credits her drawing skills and eye for design and proportion to the fashion illustration courses she took while studying clothing design at George Brown College in Toronto.

Her retail career also made her keenly aware of colour and texture.

Her recent career in painting took off after she met a group of artists, at the annual Mikelson Festival of Arts, who invited her to join their Saturday morning painting workshop.

She started painting with them under the tutelage of Joseph CT Wong at the Phoenix Art Workshop in Steveston, and began showing her work in the spring of 2007.
