The City of Surrey is holding a Parade of Public Art next weekend to showcase three additions to the city's public art collection.

The public is invited to visit a trio of local parks throughout the day on July 11 when the artworks will be unveiled and the artists will be in attendance.

The works include Lingua Aqua, by Melanie Cassidy, Michael Filimowicz, Brady Marks and Philippe Pasquier, which will be unveiled in Bear Creek Park (King George Hwy. and 88 Ave.) at 10 a.m. The pavilion-shaped work combines sculptural, architectural, graphic and audiovisual elements with still and running water. Through allusions to many different written and spoken language elements, it asks us to contemplate the diversity and commonalities of language across cultures and within our own communities.

At 11:30 a.m., Eric Robertson's piece, called Continuum: From Seed to Shelter, will be unveiled at Green Timbers Greenway on Fraser Highway near 96 Avenue. Six inter-related sculptures, mounted atop 12-foot fluted poles, honour the history and ecology of the Green Timbers forest and pay homage to the redwood cedar. They also make reference to the cycle of life of the cedar and our responsibility to our natural environment.

The final piece, Underfoot yet Overhead, by Karen Kazmer, will be unveiled at Holland Park (King George Hwy. and Old Yale Rd.) at 1:30 p.m. The series of installations are arranged sequentially, like stop-motion animation, and mounted on SkyTrain pillars, with the images celebrating sports activities represented in the Whalley Athletic Park.
