On Nov. 6, Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society hosted Bollywood in the 70’s, a sold-out fundraising gala in support of the PICS Second Stage Housing project.

The gala raised $120,000 through support and donations from the community, including some major donations by individuals and businesses.

The event was hosted by TV personalities, Tarannum Thind and Dean Atwal, and featured speeches from a member of the Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter, keynote speaker Daisy Kler, and author of Black and Blue Sari, Kamal Dhillon.

Nearly $10,000 worth of art was donated to the silent auction by local artist, Pardeep Mehta. His art is a unique display of Indian history and culture through paintings which include intrinsic stonework.

“We’re delighted with the support we received,” said PICS CEO Charan Gill.
