Surrey City Council presented the Canada Day Youth Award to Aleksandra Kuligowski, a Grade 11 student from Guildford Park Secondary School.

The Canada Day Youth Award is presented by the government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage in recognition of outstanding contributions by young people in their communities.

“We are very proud of Aleksandra’s accomplishment,” said Mayor Dianne Watts. “The recognition of local youth by agencies outside Surrey speaks to the skills and talents of our young people.”

Aleksandra was recognized for her community participation at the Surrey Museum through a work experience placement contributing 100 hours of service.

Her contribution to the museum included helping to support school programs for students in Grades 2 to 5, assisting research for a new archaeology program for Grade 7 classes and hosting visitors and providing gallery security for the popular LEGO Winter Wonderland exhibition.
