Surgeons at Surrey Memorial Hospital will be better able to treat bladder and prostate cancers after receiving a generous gift from RBC Foundation.
RBC is giving SMH $25,000 to help purchase a laser cystoscope. The donation is made, in part, to commemorate the 50th anniversaries of both RBC's Scott Town Branch and the hospital.
RBC’s gift was presented to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation during golden anniversary celebrations November 12th for the Scott Town branch (9490 120 St. Surrey).
"RBC is proud to support the purchase of this important medical equipment," said Mark Smith, RBC regional vice president. "It will only work to enhance the high quality service and treatment the staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital provides."
SMH representatives said it's a much-needed donation.
“We are so grateful to RBC and the staff at the Scott Town branch for a gesture that will help several cancer patients each week,” said Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation Chair Jacy Wingson. “This donation continues RBC’s longstanding support of Surrey MemorialHospital and allows us to provide the tools to attract and retain the best and brightest health care providers for the region.”
Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $50 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Surrey Memorial Hospital, which began to offer care to patients in 1959.
