The City of Surrey will have to pay damages for being in breach of a land use contract, a B.C. Supreme Court justice has ruled.

Shiraz Virani, owner of International World Wide Webb Inc. and North Whalley Management, entered into an agreement with Surrey in 1976 for a Whalley business she was operating. The city placed several restrictions on use that Virani said caused foreclosure on her property.

B.C. Supreme Court Justice Janice Dillon found Surrey in breach of its land use contract and ordered the city to pay damages to be determined at a later date.
