Supporting community projects

Vancity has awarded more than $326,450 to 38 local organizations that support community projects in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Island. The grants will be used to fund a variety of initiatives that benefit the social, environmental and economic well-being of the community.
Among the Surrey area recipients:
• Green Timbers Heritage Society, whichis using its $10,000 grant towards Surrey’s Natural Areas Partnership (SNAP) project.
• OPTIONS: Services to Communities Society, which will use its $10,000 grant for the Reducing Barriers for Participation program.
• The Surrey Food Bank received $9,000 for their Gleaning Project.
• Surrey Parks, Recreation & Culture is using their $5,000 grant for the City of Surrey Environmental Extravaganza.
• Surrey Urban Farmers Market Association will use their $10,000 to run their weekly farmers’ market in Whalley.
• Junior Achievement of British Columbia received $10,000 for the Economics for Success (ESIS) project. The grant will be used to deliver 61 ESIS courses to Grade 9 and 10 students in Richmond and Surrey.
