Some of Canada's best young female hockey players will arrive in South Surrey next week, when South Surrey Arena plays host to the 2009 National Women's Under-18 Hockey Championships.
The City of Surrey-hosted event runs from Nov. 4-8, and will feature eight regional teams from across the country. One Surrey native, Lauren Kimura, is on Team BC's roster. She's a member of the Vancouver Fusion of the B.C. Female Midget AAA league.
Games begin Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m., when Saskatchewan battles Atlantic Canada.
B.C. – which is in Group B along with Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec - will play its first game Thursday night, at 8 p.m.
The top two teams from each group will play each other in semifinals, with the winners advancing to the title tilt.
Team Ontario-Red – the province has two entries in the event – has won the last six tournaments.
The gold-medal game is slated for Sunday, Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m.
A full-tournament ticket package – featuring all 18 games – is available for $80. An evening and weekend package – which includes 5 and 8 p.m. weekday games, plus all six weekend playoff contests – sells for $60.
Single game tickets are $5 for preliminary-round games and $7 for playoff games.
