A week after a thrashing at the hands of the Vancouver Island Raiders, the Big Kahuna Rams delivered one of their own Saturday, cruising to a 59-19 victory over the hapless Vancouver Trojans in the second-to-last game of the regular season.
Rams' star quarterback Cam Clark didn't have to do much through the air Saturday, leaving the bulk of the offence in the hands of running back Errol Brooks.
The Toronto rookie had his best game in Rams' colours, finishing the game with 196 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries.
The Rams jumped all over the Trojans early, scoring four first-quarter touchdowns before Vancouver finally got on the board in the second quarter, scoring 13 points. The Rams took a 35-13 lead into halftime, and added 10 points in the third and two more major scores in the final frame.
Clark, one of the most prolific passers on the B.C. junior football circuit, threw for just 87 yards in limited action. He did, however, throw a pair of touchdowns – and one interception – before giving way to backup signal-caller Marc Paquette, who completed just three-of-12 passes, one TD and one interception.
Rams' Receiver Thomas Rafuse caught two passes – both of which went for touchdowns – to finish with 48 yards, and Zack Denton also hauled in a scoring toss.
Big Kahuna defenders also got into the scoring act as Jordan Linnen and Joe Lester each returned interceptions for touchdowns – from 36 and 31 yards out, respectively.
Though he didn't score, Shane Poberznick had the longest play of the day, returning an interception 90 yards.
Ryan Prasad, Lincoln Bryan and Brian Nevins each had sacks.
The win boosted the Rams' record to 7-2 – second behind the first-place, undefeated Raiders.
The Rams wrap up the season Saturday, at home against the Okanagan Sun. The playoffs begin Oct. 24.
