Four White Rock-South Surrey Titans teams proved to be real road warriors last weekend, as the atom, peewee, junior bantam and bantam outfits all pitched shutouts in other teams’ parks.
The atom division Blue Titans edged the Westside Warriors 12-0 in Vancouver on Sunday, led by Michael Downhaniuk’s two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Other Titans with impressive defensive performances were Jarod Roberson, Josh Tweed and Sebastian Chromy.
Not to be outdone, the peewee Titans knocked off Westside 30-0 in the next game, while their junior bantam counterparts equalled the feat, with a 28-0 victory over the Warriors.
The biggest win of the day, however, came in Cloverdale, where White Rock’s bantam squad defeated the Cloverdale Leopards, 42-0.
In that contest, the Titans’ offensive line dominated, leading to touchdowns from Derek Crawford, who had three; Willie Watson, who finished with two; and Dima Povalayev. Povalayev also had a blocked punt on defence, which was recovered by Cole Edwards.
Quarterback Cole Meyer also had a big day, with one rushing touchdown and two through the air.
Defensively, Watson blocked a field goal, while Travis Grande-Jambe had one interception. The team’s leading tacklers were Harrison Allen, Tyler Leader and Dylan Kazda.
In midget action, the Titans dropped a 34-15 decision to the Cloverdale Bengals.
Christien Pedersen had a pair of TDs – including one on an 82-yard run – while Kyle Bose, Kevin Sexsmith, Code Workun and Davis Loukianow were defensive standouts.
White Rock’s second atom squad, the White Titans, lost 44-18 to the highly skilled Langley Colts.
Despite the loss, the Titans got three TDs from Daniel Damron, on two scoring runs of 75 yards and another spanning 55 yards.
Jesse Lesperance, Tanner Foreman, Holden McLennan and Dario Esposito anchored the defence.
Rounding out the Titans’ slate of games were the flag division White Titans, who lost 14-13, to the Langley Stallions.
