Quarterback Cam Clark – who had one of his best days of his junior football career – threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Big Kahuna Rams to a 61-0 thrashing of the hapless Vancouver Trojans Saturday at South Surrey Athletic Park.
Clark torched the Trojan defence for 427 yards through the air – and kept them off-balance by throwing to eight different receivers – and he also ran for 42 yards and one TD.
His longest pass of the day was a 75-yard touchdown strike to running back Kyle Willis, who also punched in a score on the ground.
Wideout Nick Downey led the receiving corps with four catches – one for a TD – and 127 yards.
Justene Edwards and Thomas Rafuse also caught touchdown passes from Clark.
And although no individual ran for more than 100 yards, the Rams’ running game dominating with a runner-by-committee approach. In addition to Clark’s exploits with his feet, Toronto native Errol Brooks – in his first year on the Peninsula – had 65 yards and one touchdown on nine carries, and Carlo Graziano also had one rushing score.
Rounding out the scoring for the South Surrey side was kicker Curtis Glawson, who was one-for-two on field goals – connecting on a 43-yard attempt. He also had successful conversion on all eight Rams’ touchdowns.
In total, the South Surrey squad – who improved to 4-1 with the win – racked up 644 totals yards on offence, compared to just 130 net yards for Vancouver, which is still searching for its first win of the B.C. Junior Football season.
On the defensive side of the football, the Rams – who were torched by Vancouver Island running back Andrew Harris earlier in the season – stymied the Trojan running game.
Vancouver managed just 52 rushing yards, and Ilia Shtilianov was the team’s leader on the ground with just 28 yards – the same number of yards picked up by Rams’ backup quarterback Marc Paquette, who saw limited action Saturday.
Rams’ defenders finished the day with four sacks, including one from Ryan Prasad, who also had a fumble recovery and a pair of tackles.
Defensive back Jordan Linnen had the lone interception for the Rams.
The Rams will face a much tougher contest this weekend, when they travel to Kelowna to face the Okanagan Sun at the Apple Bowl.
The following week, the Rams hit the road again against the Victoria Rebels.
