Medal haul

Chris Grahame of the Mann Park Lawn Bowling Club is heading back to the Canadian championships after winning a gold medal at provincials earlier this summer.

Grahame defeated Vern Greenhill to take first place in the men’s singles division, thus advancing to the nationals, which are to be held Aug. 17-22 at Victoria’s Juan de Fuca Lawn Bowling Club.

With the win, Grahame now has an interesting claim to fame, as the only B.C. bowler to win provincial gold in all five adult disciplines – fours, pairs, singles, mixed pairs and senior triples.

The last time nationals were held at the Juan de Fuca club – in 1998 – Grahame skipped his B.C. fours team to a silver medal. This year’s event also marks the 10-year anniversary of Grahame’s first national gold medal, which he won in Toronto in 1999.
