After a tumultuous few weeks in mid-June in which they fell from first place and at one point lost four straight games, the White Rock Tritons appear to have righted the ship, reeling off wins in four of the last five B.C. Premier Baseball League games.

The Tritons split a pair of games with the Coquitlam Reds on June 27 – winning the first 6-1 before losing the nightcap, 5-4 – and the following day won a pair on the road against the Nanaimo Pirates, by 9-2 and 4-3 scores.

A league contest scheduled for Tuesday against the North Delta Blue Jays was rained out. The Tritons are in Lynnwood, Wash. this weekend, at the Wilkinson Baseball Academy Invitational.

With 10 games left on the schedule, the team sits in second place behind the Langley Blaze, with a 27-10 record.

Against the Red, who are having an off-year at 11-29, the Tritons were paced by pitcher Brett Clark, who pitched a complete game, striking out two and scattering seven hits.

Designated hitter Nick Senior and right-fielder Antonio Paolini each had triples to lead the offence.

In the second game, the Tritons were trailing 5-0 heading into the sixth inning before head coach Brent Swanson emptied the bench in an attempt to shake up his club. The substitutions nearly worked, as White Rock plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Thomas Stone, who pitched four innings of relief after starter Jake Bergsma was chased from the game after giving up four runs in the first frame, was tagged with the loss.

In Nanaimo, Milan Mantle and Paul Schellenberg picked up victories on the mound for White Rock in a pair of mistake-filled contests; the teams combined for 10 errors.

The Tritons return to league action Tuesday with a home game against Langley.
