Halloween, I went to bed and all was well till 1 a.m., when I was awakened with sounds that I thought I had forgotten.
The sound of big bangs and flashes of lights – I thought I was back in Normandy on D-Day.
The screams of joy at the Halloween party reminded me of the screams of wounded soldiers and the sounds of fireworks was a reminder of being shelled and bombed and machine gunned.
I will never forget.
I did not get to sleep again, thanks to the memories which I would not like to see again.
