You should all be very proud

Well, I just wanted to say what a bunch of nice kids we met when we went to see Mama Mia at the open theatre on Aug. 29 in White Rock.
If you raised a young girl named Megan – blond hair and the nicest smile and manners to boot – what a good job you have done.
We asked her what she was making and she showed us her bracelets that she makes out of embroidery thread and asked us if we would like one. Both my friend and I said we would like one so she got right on it and before the show started she had made us each one.
Her other three friends that were there with her also were so nice to talk to. Not all kids are mouthy like people think they are.
We talked to them as we would want to be talked to, and they respected us and were friendly and so outgoing. What a pleasure meeting Megan and her three friends that night.
Yes, I am a mother and grandmother, and would be very proud if they were my kids.

This is a letter to the editor in acknowledgement of a young woman who helped me by offering me her arm in the steep climb up Laurel Street from West 8 Avenue – in Vancouver on Friday, Aug. 21.
She even offered to drive me home to Ladner, since it was en route to her home in White Rock.
My intention was to take a bus from Broadway and make a connection at Granville for Tsawwassen, where my car was parked, so I was unable to accept her generous offer to a complete stranger of 82 years of age!
Her gesture is particularly thought-provoking, and not especially evident elsewhere. White Rock must be in a class by itself.

On Friday, Aug. 21 my husband had an accident outside the Hospice Thrift Store on 24 Avenue.
He had fallen heavily head-first off the sidewalk. In seconds, the wonderful staff of that store phoned 911 and applied cold compresses to his head and kept him still and did everything possible to help until the paramedics arrived – just about six minutes later.
I would like to thank with all my heart the wonderful treatment he received at so many hands.
The ladies in the Thrift Store were wonderful and comforting, and the paramedics performed like the gentlemen they were – brilliantly.
A kind lady shopper escorted me to Peace Arch Hospital, and the staff and service in the hospital was outstanding.
I can’t thank all of you enough. The citizens of White Rock and South Surrey should be proud to have such people in their midst.
Thanks to all of you my husband is making an excellent recovery.
