Re: City’s anti-smoking bylaw ‘creates beast,’ June 19.
It is amazing watching the White Rock politicians patting themselves on the back with the passage of the non-smoking bylaw.
White Rock has had a “no dogs” rule on the beach and promenade for years now, and it is never enforced. In fact, last weekend, on one day, we counted seven dogs on the walk or on the beach.
White Rock loves to pass laws but never follows through with enforcement.

I am a little perplexed reading the smoking ban on the beach, when on the following Sunday afternoon, my husband and I decided to take a nice stroll down the promenade, which we do on a regular basis.
We counted 20 dogs on our walk, some on the beach some on the walkway. I saw one do its business by the edge of the water and the owner did not pick up. Several large dogs were unleashed.
If the city bylaw does not enforce the no-dog policy, how on earth will it enforce a no-smoking ban.
I find it quite ridiculous to think a sign is going to stop someone from having a smoke on the beach. There are clear signs to indicate no dogs on the beach area.
On all our walks we see plenty of bylaw officers giving tickets for parking, but I have yet to see any enforcing the no-dog policy.
The city should practise enforcing the rules that are already in place before adding new ones.
