Re: Taking a bridge celebration too far, June 19.
We read columnist Nick Greenizan’s item about the Golden Ears Bridge and his comments about the use of tax dollars for a tolled crossing.
I hope Nick will be happy to know that there are very few tax dollars involved in the bridge. The cost of building the bridge has been essentially covered by the builder, and TransLink will repay the builder through monthly payments from now through 2041.
Based on our usage estimates, the toll revenues will cover these payments over the life of the contract.

Wow, columnist Nick Greenizan’s opinion article really put me in a bad mood.
Must he share his “party pooper”ness with the rest of the community, and the 40,000-plus people who attended the celebration?
Maybe he should remind himself it is the 21st century, and that even city development needs to keep up with the increasing population in the Lower Mainland and come to grips that the Township of Langley will not remain as it was 10 years ago.
In fact, I bet he also wishes the Cambie Bridge was still a simple, timber trestle.
Based on his article, if he can’t see any goodness in “just a bridge,” then I don’t see how Greenizan enjoys any other aspect of his life.

Greenizan writes: I’m not anti-bridge, just anti-misguided enthusiasm. For the record, I enjoy my life just fine.
