Owners away, thieves move in

They came, they hung out, they ransacked.
Thieves took full opportunity of a home left unattended last week.
Police were called Friday to investigate a break-in in the 16500-block of 24 Avenue. They found a mess that indicated vandals had likely been in the home for a few days. They broke a back-door window to gain entry.
“Apparently, they had enough time there to actually start stripping the house of copper piping,” said Const. Kenn Meglic.
“The home was ransacked.”
A caretaker reported the breach.
Residents should take precautions, Meglic said.
“You need to ensure... the home looks lived in,” he said.
A second break-and-enter reported the following evening points to the importance of locking doors and windows.
The crime took place in the 13000-block of 14 Avenue. Suspects entered through an unlocked front door and made off with items including a guitar and portable piano.
Anyone with information on either break-in is asked to contact police at 604-599-0502.
